With the objective of assisting Small and Medium sized export enterprises (SMEs) who are “Potential Exporters,” the Chamber has implemented a Special Project. Selected SME enterprises under the project are provided free membership of the Chamber for a certain period. During this period the selected SMEs are provided the opportunity to work closely with the Chamber to develop their businesses, and link up with leading exporters initially, to market their products, before they embark on their own.
An outline of the services that are provided to Potential Exporters by the Chamber is given below:
- Group discussions to create awareness regarding the benefits of exporting at which Directors of NCE and leading exporters are resource persons
- Training on export procedures and applicable regulations etc.
- Address issues faced by SMEs.
- Assistance to identify buyers for their products and services to develop their businesses.
- Assistance to develop product brochures/business plans/websites etc.
- Assistance to develop suitable packaging to present products.
- Assistance to display products at Trade Exhibitions and Trade fairs.
- Communicate with Sri Lankan Missions and Overseas Chambers to promote their Products and Services.
- Advice and assistance to prepare documents that are required to export.
- Represent issues of SMEs to relevant State Institutions for their resolution.
This program has been beneficial to Potential Exporters who need encouragement and support to grow into regular Exporters. Many such enterprises are now active exporters. The Chamber aims to create such ambitious exporters in the future as well with the ongoing activities and programs.
On 7th March 2017 the NCE conducted a “Potential Exporters Event” for Women Entrepreneurs with the objective of assisting SMEs who are potential exporters, with the collaboration of the International Trade Centre (ITC) in Geneva, in the conference hall of the Chamber.
On 22nd of June, there were two programs on the export procedures for producers in Kilinochchi as well as Trincomalee regions.
There were two Potential Exporters programs of NCE in collaboration with the IDB in the Kandy and Matara regions on 13th June and 22nd of September 2017, where many of our members met with the 100+ SMEs who are already suppliers for exporters and with potential to grow as exporters in the future.
